Comparison
A Vapi alternative for teams that want to own the stack
Vapi is a strong developer platform. PeachDesk differs on structure, not adjectives: a meter that can reach zero, a platform you can deploy yourself, and call data that can stay in your environment. Part of our compare voice AI platforms hub.

The short version
Vapi handles voice infrastructure so developers can ship fast, and it genuinely supports BYOK. Its pricing has a hard floor: $0.05 per minute for hosting, even when every model runs on your own keys, with realistic all-in costs of $0.15 to $0.50 per minute in third-party analyses. PeachDesk runs the same category of platform with a different architecture: bring your own keys and pay PeachDesk nothing per minute, or self-host inference in Local mode and remove the per-minute provider charge entirely, paying for GPU capacity instead.
Vapi versus PeachDesk, dimension by dimension
Vapi versus PeachDesk on identical dimensions| Dimension | Vapi | PeachDesk |
|---|
| Headline per-minute rate | $0.05 per minute for hosting, explicitly excluding model provider costs (vapi.ai/pricing, accessed 2026-07-30). | No single metered headline. Frontier mode usage is metered, and the editor shows an estimated cost per minute before an agent runs. |
|---|
| Realistic all-in per-minute cost | $0.15 to $0.50 per minute in realistic configurations, per third-party analyses from HappyRobot, Rezora, and n8nlab (accessed 2026-07-30). Directional, not vendor-published. | Set by sourcing mode per stage: Frontier mode is metered, your own keys bill at your own provider rates, and Local mode carries no per-minute provider charge while you pay for GPU capacity. |
|---|
| Meter floor under full BYOK | $0.05 per minute. The floor applies even under full BYOK; there is no tier where the meter approaches zero (vapi.ai/pricing, accessed 2026-07-30). | Zero on the PeachDesk side. Calls on your own provider keys are never metered by PeachDesk and never consume PeachDesk credits; you still pay your own providers. |
|---|
| Bring your own provider keys (BYOK) | Yes. Under full BYOK, model costs drop to $0 on the Vapi bill, though the hosting floor remains. | Yes, per pipeline stage per agent, mixed freely with managed frontier providers or self-hosted inference. |
|---|
| Path to near-zero per-minute inference | None documented. Vapi brokers cloud models and offers no self-hosted model plane. | Yes. Local mode runs a full open-model stack on your GPUs with no per-minute provider charge; you pay for GPU capacity. Telephony carriers always meter. |
|---|
| Self-hosted deployment | An On-Prem option exists through enterprise sales. Pricing is not published, and Vapi’s own data-flow documentation describes the orchestration core as Vapi operated. | The full platform self-hosts with Docker Compose. Billing is off by default in the self-hosted stack; you still pay your own providers and infrastructure. |
|---|
| Where call data can live | Data residency sits behind the annual Scale contract. Self-serve plans keep documented retention windows on Vapi infrastructure. | Inside your own environment. On self-hosted stages, call audio and transcripts need not leave it. |
|---|
| Compliance posture | SOC 2, HIPAA, and PCI packaging on the Scale plan. On self-serve, HIPAA is a $2,000 per month add-on and Zero Data Retention a $1,000 per month add-on (vapi.ai/pricing, accessed 2026-07-30). | Bibha, the company behind PeachDesk, holds SOC 2 and ISO 27001 at the Bibha AI Trust Center, with ISO/IEC 42001 in progress. No HIPAA artifact today. For data control, the platform, the models, and the call data can also run inside your environment, fronted by your own controls and auditors. |

Where Vapi is stronger
- Proven developer experience at scale. Vapi publishes large self-reported scale numbers and a broad customer wall. We do not contest them.
- BYOK breadth. Vapi supports bring-your-own-keys across its model providers. Under full BYOK, model costs leave the Vapi bill; the $0.05 hosting floor does not.
- Compliance purchasing. Teams that prefer to buy attestations can add HIPAA or Zero Data Retention as monthly line items, or move to the Scale contract for SOC 2 and data residency.
- An On-Prem path exists. It is enterprise-only and sales-gated with unpublished pricing, but it exists, and any fair comparison must say so.
Where PeachDesk is structurally different
- An architectural path off the meter. Local mode runs a full open-model stack on your GPUs with no per-minute provider charge; you pay for GPU capacity. Frontier mode stays metered, and telephony carriers always meter.
- Billing that steps aside. Calls on your own provider keys are never metered by PeachDesk, and billing is off by default in the self-hosted stack; you still pay your own providers and infrastructure.
- Data that stays home. On self-hosted stages, call audio and transcripts need not leave your environment. That is control by architecture, not by add-on.

Cost structure, in plain terms
Vapi's model is a hosting meter plus pass-through model costs: $0.05 per minute on every call, with model spend on top unless you bring your own keys. Third-party analyses place realistic all-in configurations at $0.15 to $0.50 per minute (HappyRobot, Rezora, n8nlab, accessed 2026-07-30). PeachDesk's model is a sourcing choice per pipeline stage: metered Frontier providers where you want them, your own keys where you do not, and self-hosted inference where you want the meter gone. For the mechanics, see PeachDesk pricing and our explainer on voice AI cost per minute.
Deployment and data control
Vapi's SaaS keeps the orchestration core on Vapi infrastructure; its On-Prem option is enterprise sales territory with unpublished pricing. PeachDesk publishes a Docker Compose self-host path for the full platform, voice engine included. If deployment control is the reason you are comparing, read about self-hosted voice AI on PeachDesk.
Migration notes
Teams that migrate from Vapi keep the assets that are hardest to replace. Your provider keys carry over directly: BYOK sourcing keeps the same providers at the same rates, and calls on your own keys are never metered by PeachDesk. Call flows rebuild on the visual canvas or from JSON definitions; there is no automated import, and we will not claim one, but each agent maps stage by stage. Your phone numbers never move: they stay with your carrier, because porting is a carrier concern rather than a platform one, and PeachDesk connects seven telephony providers plus your own Asterisk PBX. Managed credits are optional throughout: keep everything on your own keys with the $59 a month Pay As You Go platform charge, or use the $0.06 per minute Bibha Plan only where managed providers earn it.

Frequently asked questions
Is PeachDesk cheaper than Vapi?
Cheaper per minute is the wrong frame; cost structure is the right one. Vapi’s $0.05 per minute hosting floor applies even under full BYOK (vapi.ai/pricing, accessed 2026-07-30). PeachDesk’s Frontier mode is metered too, but calls on your own provider keys are never metered by PeachDesk, and Local mode carries no per-minute provider charge on self-hosted stages, where you pay for GPU capacity.
Does Vapi support BYOK?
Yes, and we will not claim otherwise. Vapi supports bring-your-own-keys across model providers, and under full BYOK the model costs on your Vapi bill drop to zero. What remains is the $0.05 per minute hosting floor (vapi.ai/pricing, accessed 2026-07-30). PeachDesk also supports BYOK, per pipeline stage per agent, and calls on your own keys are never metered by PeachDesk at all.
Can you self-host Vapi?
Vapi offers an On-Prem option through enterprise sales, with unpublished pricing, and its own data-flow documentation describes the orchestration core as Vapi operated. PeachDesk self-hosts the full platform, including inference, with Docker Compose. Billing is off by default in the self-hosted stack, and you still pay your own providers and infrastructure. The difference is self-serve ownership versus a sales-gated appliance.
What does Vapi charge for compliance features?
On self-serve plans, Vapi lists HIPAA at $2,000 per month and Zero Data Retention at $1,000 per month, with SOC 2, PCI, and data residency behind the annual Scale contract (vapi.ai/pricing, accessed 2026-07-30). Bibha, the company behind PeachDesk, holds SOC 2 and ISO 27001 at the Bibha AI Trust Center; there is no HIPAA artifact or paid zero-retention add-on because self-hosting puts the platform, the models, and your call data inside your environment by architecture.
Why do teams evaluate PeachDesk alongside Vapi?
Usually for one of three structural reasons: the meter, the data, or the margin. Vapi’s meter has a floor above zero on every tier, the orchestration core is not customer deployable in SaaS, and reseller economics sit on the vendor’s per-minute rate. PeachDesk offers an architectural path off the meter in Local mode, call data inside your environment, and operator-owned pricing when you self-host.
